Micro-Thesaurus 65

last modified 2006-10-24 11:25

ORIGINS

The purpose of this list is to record the tribe, caste, family line or regional grouping from which the person comes. While Micro-thesaurus 13: Ethnic Groups, contains a list of major ethnic groups world-wide, organisations which work mainly on one country or region may want to compile a list of tribes, castes, family line or regional groupings of relevance for their work, so that entries are consistent.

It is recommended that organisations check whether there are official lists of groups, and verify whether these lists are correct and relevant for their work.

This Micro-thesaurus is used for field 943 Other Background in the Person format.

Example

In its Human Rights Yearbook 2000, the Nepali human rights organisation INSEC refers to a list of ethnic groups developed by the government of Nepal (1), which include, among others:

03 Baramo
04 Bhote
05 Bhujel/Gharti

(1) The terms are extracted from: Bhandari, Lekh Nath. "Chapter 3.2 His Majesty's Government and Human Rights" Human Rights Yearbook 2000. Informal Sector Service Centre. 6 December 2000.
