The legal protection of personal data & human remains

Final report and outcome of an electronic workshop held in the period 2 April – 6 May 2002, within the framework of a larger project on “The missing: action to resolve the problem of people unaccounted for as a result of armed conflict or internal violence and to assist their families”.

The aim of the workshop was to define basic general principles regarding the legal protection of personal data and the identification of persons unaccounted for which could be upheld worldwide, in particular during and after situations of armed conflict or internal violence, in order to ensure best practices from all those involved in resolving issues related to missing persons. The outcome is a set of principles with regard to the protection of personal data, the identification of human remains and the protection of genetic information.
