This short guide seeks to provide a succinct and user-friendly explanation of what ‘mapping’ is and how it can be used in the development of strategies to combat human rights violations and abuses. It focuses mainly on the mapping of violations and abuses of human rights, but it also touches on how mapping can be used for positive social change. It introduces diagrammatic (schematic) maps, tactical mapping, development mapping and cultural mapping. It also includes a training session for those who may wish to share this skill with others.
