ABC of international humanitarian law

International humanitarian law – also known as the Law of Armed Conflict or the Law of War (ius in bello) – applies to armed conflicts and has a two-fold purpose: to regulate the conduct of hostilities and to protect the victims of armed conflicts.
The purpose of this document is to explain the key concepts of international humanitarian law and to allow the reader to become familiar with this particular branch of international law. It makes no pretence to being an exhaustive lexicon on the subject.
