    The aim of the Enforced Disappearances Information Exchange Center is to centralise and exchange information about enforced disappearances and facilitate contact and communication between interested parties.     This is the first publication of the EDIEC newsletter. This newsletter provides an overview on news, publications, agenda items and interesting articles about the issue of enforced disappearances.     The 'Abuelas de la Plaza de Mayo' nominated for Nobel Peace Award   [English, Spanish]
    
     
    
    After two unsuccessful attempts, the Norwegian Nobel Committee that evaluates the candidates of the Nobel Peace Prize accepted the nomination of 'Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo'. The nomination filed last January by Senator Daniel Filmus, former education minister, has just been approved. 
    The Grandmothers had been candidates for personal initiatives in 2001 and 2007, but the proposal did not prospered so far. Filmus began working on the project last year, when his tenure as minister of education ended. He presented the project in January this year, as a national senator. 
    
    
    Creation of new family members committee for the presentation with life of the Detained-Disappeared in Mexico  . [Spanish]
    
    
    The Latin American Federation of association of Relatives of Disappeared Detainees (FEDEFAM) and Asociación of Relatives of Disappeared and Victims of Human Rights Violations in Mexico (AFADEM) introduced the new Comité de Familiares por la Presentación con Vida de los Detenidos Desaparecidos (1990-2008). This committee aims to demand the presentation of missing relatives alive, to achieve truth and justice, and to end the impunity that allows the continuation of this abhorrent practice that affects both victims and society as a whole
    
    
    AFAD Commemorates the Week of the Disappeared  . [English]
    
    
    'The Asian Federation Against Involuntary Disappearances joins all families of the disappeared persons around the world in the commemoration of the International Week of the Disappeared from May 26 to June 1. This week of the desaparecidos was first commemorated by the Latin American Federation of Associations of Relatives of Disappeared-Detainees (FEDEFAM) more than a couple of decades ago.'     Quezon City, Philippines 4th of June. The Asian Federation Against Disappearances commemorated its 10th anniversary  . The celebrations were attended by all the member organisations of AFAD and representatives of FEDEFAM in between others. The celebrations had had a common theme of 'A Decade of Journey Towards a World Without Desaparecidos.'
    
    
    Huancavelica, Peru 14th of June. The Peruvian human rights organisation Qatary Panituri organises a forum over enforced disappearances  . Participants to this event will be mainly family members of the disappeared, lawyers and representatives of the judicial system of the region.  After the forum a training for representatives of family member organisations of all provinces in this region will follow. This training covers some of the legal action mechanisms that can be put into practice in case of an enforced disappearance. This training is part of the Linking Solidarity LiLA capacity building programme.
    
    
    Rabat, Morocco 12th - 14th of June. The Euro-Mediterranean Federation against enforced disappearances (FEMED) will hold the 'Second Euro-Mediterranean Meeting of Families of Disappeared'   with the theme 'The Convention against Enforced Disappearances in the Euro-Mediterranean countries'. 
    
    
    Buenos Aires, Argentina 20th - 26th of July. The UN Working Group against Enforced and Involuntary Disappearances will celebrate their second annual session in Buenos Aires, Argentina  . According to non-official sources the UNWGEID meeting session will take place from the 23rd to the 26th of July
