The 2007 International Human Rights Academy  
will be held in Utrecht, the Netherlands, between 20 August and 01 September
2007 

 

The various intensive courses that make up the Academy are designed to
provide high quality legal education in comparative international human
rights and humanitarian law, with an emphasis on practical aspects in the
various fields. Lectures are given by members of the organizing universities
and institutes and by highly experienced practitioners in the field of human
rights, coming from different intergovernmental and other international
institutions. 

 

The Academy is held under the auspices of the Law Faculty of Ghent
University (Belgium), the Law Faculty of Utrecht University (The
Netherlands), the Law Faculty of the University of the Western Cape
(Republic of South Africa) and the Washington College of Law at American
University (USA).

 

Courses: Universal System of Protection of Human Rights, the African System
of Protection of Human Rights, the European System of Protection of Human
Rights, the Inter-American System of Protection of Human Rights,
International Humanitarian Law, International Criminal Law and Human Rights,
and Transitional Law. Furthermore, specific topics such as Universalism vs.
Cultural Relativism, the Rights of the Child, Social and Economic Rights,
the Prohibition of Torture, Minority Rights, Foreign Policy and Human
Rights, Human Rights from Global Perspectives, the Protection of Refugees,
International Criminal Tribunals, Women's Rights, Universal Jurisdiction,
Alternative Reporting, Advocacy and Networking are also included. 

 

Applications: The deadline to submit applications and supporting documents
is 20 April 2007. Application forms are available on the IHRA website
