The Martin Ennals Award for Human Rights Defenders (MEA) for 2010 is being awarded to Muhannad Al-Hassani, a Syrian lawyer. Read more about his life and struggle on the MEA website.
The ceremonly will take place in Geneva on Friday 15 October 2010, at 18h00 Swiss time. For those who wish to attend the ceremony, bookings can be made here.
The ceremony programme is about one hour and includes a unique 15-minute film on Al-Hassani and an appearance by the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
The event will also be streamed in both English and Arabic from several websites including this HURIDOCS page. The streaming will start two hours later, meaning at 20h00 Swiss time i.e. 18h00 GMT.
