Join New Tactics for this important dialogue on Staying Safe: Security Resources for Human Rights Defenders from July 21 – 27, 2010. Human rights defenders are often met with oppression, discrimination and violence. Human rights work is powerful and necessary; it is important identify strategies and methods for protection of these defenders. This dialogue will bring together practitioners that work with human rights defenders developing security strategies to share important resources and tools for the human rights community.

Join New Tactics and Shaazka Beyerle of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict (ICNC) for an online dialogue on Empowering Citizens to Fight Corruption from August 25 to 31, 2010 to fight corruption on all levels. This dialogue will explore how campaigns have empowered and mobilized citizens to counter corruption in their communities. Citizens working together are gaining powerful results. This is a space to learn about and share experiences in these kinds of campaigns as well as share your ideas, resources, and stories.

Join a group
We have had great success with our New Tactics featured online dialogues – this is all because of you! Now we want you to continue sharing your experiences, ideas, stories, challenges, success, questions, suggestions, etc by joining one (or many) of our New Tactics groups! We have over 40 New Tactics groups on the website that are organized around tactical topics, issues areas, and resource categories. Many of our featured online dialogues now have corresponding groups where community members can continue sharing. Here are a few examples:
Advocates of Humor for those interested in finding and sharing resources around using humor in activism
Documenting Human Rights Violations for those interested in sharing experiences around documentation techniques
Security: resources and tools for those interested in learning more about security
Self-care resources for activists for those interested in learning more about self-care
Using shadow reports for those interested in learning more about how to write and use shadow reports for advocacy
In these groups, members can share links, documents, images, video, and group dialogues. Group members can also collaborate on a wiki. For an introduction to all the ways group members can share information with each other, watch our short online presentation on this topic. These groups are free and open to any New Tactics online community member. If you would like a more secure and private space to collaborate and communicate with colleagues on our website, you can create your own group and set the privacy settings to “private.” For help on how to join a group, watch our short online presentation that will walk you through the steps.
