resumen en español El Consejo Internacional de Políticas de Derechos Humanos acaba de publicar la contratación de su informe sobre el control social y los derechos humanos, disponible en inglés en http://www.ichrp.org/files/drafts/11/126_draft.pdf

The International Council on Human Rights Policy is pleased to share with you the draft report http://www.ichrp.org/files/drafts/11/126_draft.pdf of its project on social control and human rights. The Widening Web of Control emerges from a multidisciplinary project involving research in five different policy areas: public health/infectious diseases control; the city and urban poor; punishment and incarceration; policing and surveillance; controls over migrant and non-citizens. In addition, a case study of the Roma in Europe was also undertaken.

The report examines the human rights implications of the steady expansion of the power of public authorities and private entities to exercise control and restrict freedoms through social policy. Highlighting the challenges facing human rights advocates, it identifies key areas in which human rights theory and practice may need reorientation to respond effectively to the contemporary landscape of control and its human rights consequences.

The draft report is also available on the Council’s website along with final drafts of the underlying research papers
http://www.ichrp.org/en/zoom-in/new_draft_social_control_and_human_rights
(the latter for reference only). The final printed version of the report will also have the complete versions of all the research papers on a companion CD.

We will greatly appreciate comments and feedback on this draft by the 22nd of March. Please send in your comments to nagaraj@ichrp.org
